Professional development

Sergio is a partner of the Mexican firm Counselors International Abogados, with offices in several cities in Mexico. He holds a Law Degree from the Law School of the Universidad Panamericana (JD) in Mexico City; holds a Master of Laws from Washington University in Saint Louis with the Dean's Leadership Award with a specialization in negotiations and dispute resolution; He has obtained degrees of specialization in environmental, corporate, tax, corporate social responsibility and energy law. He has attended the Harvard Law School Negotiations Program during 1994, 2011 and 2017.

He has been practicing corporate law, environmental health, and occupational safety for the past 38 years. Sergio has represented foreign and national companies before the environmental, health and occupational safety authorities at the federal, state and municipal levels of Mexico in areas related to environmental impact, air, water, hazardous waste, high risk activities, import and export of hazardous materials and waste, permits, radioactive, environmental audits, waste management plans, administrative litigation and mergers and acquisitions.

Sergio also has extensive experience in handling health and safety issues, remediation of contaminated sites, negotiations with regulators, due diligence and compliance issues, and environmental aspects of real estate transactions, which includes the Export Maquila Industry (IMMEX) located in all of Mexico. and specifically on the US border.

Sergio is a member of the environmental committees of the American Bar Association (ABA); Mexican Bar Association (MBA), National Association of Corporate Lawyers (ANADE); Mexican Association of Environmental Impact and former co-president of the United States-Mexico Bar Association; Economic Development of Ciudad Juárez (DECJ); Global Association for the Promotion of Chihuahua; Borderplex Alliance and is a professor of Environmental Legislation in the Master of Business Law at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (UACJ).

Sergio is a member of the International Environmental Lawyers Network (IELN). Sergio is ranked in Best Lawyers-Environment Mexico, Chambers Latin America and Who's Who Legal as an outstanding practitioner.
